Whitby Missing Girl Found Safe – Six-Year-Old Located in Mississauga
A six-year-old girl reported missing from Whitby has been found safe in Mississauga, bringing relief to her family and the wider community following an urgent search.
Durham Regional Police had appealed to the public for assistance in locating the child before announcing that she had been safely found in Mississauga. The discovery came shortly after police held a press conference seeking information about her whereabouts.
Police said the girl had last been seen in the care of 48-year-old Blair Hamilton, described by investigators as an associate of her father. According to authorities, the child had been left in Hamilton’s care Saturday evening at a McDonald’s plaza near Dundas Street East and Thickson Road in Whitby.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the girl at approximately 12:10 a.m. Sunday. Police later received information that she had been seen somewhere in Peel Region before she was eventually located safely in Mississauga.
Authorities had expressed serious concern for the child because of her age and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Sgt. Nicholas Gluckstein said during a Tuesday morning press conference that investigators were extremely concerned about her welfare while the search was underway.
Police also indicated that the girl’s father and other family members had apparently not cooperated with investigators during parts of the investigation. Authorities are continuing to work to establish a clearer account of the events leading up to the girl’s disappearance, her movements afterward, and how she came to be located in Mississauga.
The girl’s safe recovery is the latest development in an investigation that remains ongoing. Police are expected to continue examining the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and recovery as they work to determine exactly what happened.
For now, authorities have confirmed that the six-year-old missing from Whitby has been found safe. Further information may be released as the investigation continues.
